Pasadena, CA – New Wave Home Care, a locally-owned in-home care agency based in Pasadena, exhibited extraordinary courage and unyielding commitment to client safety during the devastating wildfire on January 7th. The fire, which erupted that evening, destroyed neighboring buildings including a Jewish Temple, nursing homes, local businesses, and more. Remarkably, New Wave Home Care’s office stood resilient with only minor ash and smoke in the office.
Reflecting on the incident, Founder and CEO Sam Gopinathan shared, “Tuesday night we ended up evacuating several of our clients from their homes. Our field staff took them to hotels, their friends or families’ homes.” He added, “I am so grateful and relieved to say that all our clients, all our staff, clients’ homes, and staff’s homes are all safe, with the exception of one of our staff whose home is partially damaged.”
Throughout this emergency, New Wave Home Care’s team worked relentlessly to ensure that client care was uninterrupted. “Our staff worked tirelessly, around the clock to ensure that all our clients were fully staffed,” Gopinathan said. Despite personal challenges, including some staff members facing evacuations themselves, the team showcased extraordinary dedication. Gopinathan recounted, “One of our caregivers dropped the client with their son and went home at 11 pm, only to evacuate themselves.”
Currently, the New Wave Home Care office still lacks power and requires additional cleanup, prompting the temporary relocation of operations. Gopinathan affirmed, however, that client care continues seamlessly, explaining, “We have moved to a temporary office which would be our home for the next couple of weeks. Regardless, the work will continue seamlessly, taking care of our clients.”
Gopinathan emphasized his heartfelt gratitude, saying, “I am very grateful to my team for their tireless efforts to work through this crisis” and extended his appreciation to the community for their understanding and support during this challenging time.
At New Wave Home Care, we are deeply grateful for the unwavering support from our community and the extraordinary dedication of our staff during the recent wildfire. We hope that all and their families stay safe and sound throughout this ordeal.
